KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — At least eight people were injured in a shooting at the end of the parade to celebrate the Super Bowl win by the Kansas City Chiefs, sending terrified fans running for cover and marring yet another high-profile public event in gun violence. After the Denver Nuggets’ championship parade last year, a shooting took place in downtown Denver that injured two people, though police said they didn’t believe the incident was associated with the actual celebration. Also last year, an argument resulted in shots being fired at a parking lot near the Texas Rangers’ World Series championship parade. That followed the Kansas City Royals winning the World Series in 2015, the city’s first baseball championship in 30 years.

New York CNN —Sam Bankman-Fried was found guilty Thursday following a monthlong trial that was almost as wild as the rapid rise and fall of cryptocurrency exchange FTX itself. He was found guilty of stealing billions of dollars from accounts belonging to customers of FTX. During the trial, Bankman-Fried took the unusual – and risky – decision to testify in his own defense. “I was kind of busy and lazy and didn’t bother getting a haircut for long periods of time,” Bankman-Fried said. “No offense to the Kansas City Royals, but we didn’t want to be known as the Kansas City Royals of crypto exchanges,” SBF testified.

New York CNN —Former crypto billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried took the stand in front of a judge and jury last week in his criminal fraud trial. “I was kind of busy and lazy and didn’t bother getting a haircut for long periods of time,” Bankman-Fried said. Cole Ragans, Royals shut down Astros in 7-5 win

September 23 - Cole Ragans produced his seventh quality start since being acquired by the Kansas City Royals, who rode an ambush first inning into a 7-5 win over the host Houston Astros on Friday. He allowed one run when Yordan Alvarez smoked a one-out double to left-center field that scored Jeremy Pena from first. But Ragans, acquired from Texas on June 30, thwarted the Astros repeatedly over his final four innings of work. When Alvarez and Alex Bregman walked in succession to open the sixth, Ragans buckled down again and recorded three consecutive outs to stymie the Astros once more. Ragans allowed two runs on three hits and four walks with five strikeouts over six innings by limiting the Astros to an 0-for-8 showing with runners in scoring position.

That means avoiding a two-game home sweep at the hands of the lowly crosstown-rival White Sox on Wednesday night. "We've just got to move on to (Wednesday)," Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks said. Assad didn't allow a baserunner over 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief against the White Sox on July 26. Despite an overall rough season for the White Sox, Clevinger seems content with his current situation. It's uncertain if White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson will be available after he was scratched before Tuesday's game due to a stiff neck.

August 16 - The Boston Red Sox will look to continue their push toward a playoff spot on Wednesday night in the second contest of their three-game series against the host Washington Nationals. With their 5-4 victory in the series opener Tuesday, the Red Sox have won six of their last eight games. Gore, 24, has yet to face the Red Sox in his young career. "They did an outstanding job," Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. After back-to-back late comeback wins against the Oakland Athletics, the Nationals couldn't produce similar heroics against the Red Sox relievers.
